Ahsoka

Weā€™re just three weeks away from Ahsokaā€¦how insane is that? After years of waiting and anticipation, weā€™ve almost made it. The two-episode premiere will be over an hour and a half long combined, so thereā€™s a lot to look forward to.

As I mentioned last week, this show is going to be the continuation of the storyline from Star Wars Rebels. I just got done with my rewatch of Rebels S1 and Iā€™m excited to move to S2. There are some great moments in S1, mainly with the family dynamic, but as it is with all of Star Wars animation, it just gets better as the show goes on.

If you missed it, last weekā€™s edition has the breakdown of must-watch episodes. Time to binge, people. This is what we trained for.

Marvel

Loki

Fresh off of the disappointment of Secret Invasion, Marvel Studios dropped the trailer for Loki S2, and it honestly looks like a lot of fun. Iā€™m having an extremely hard time trusting anything with the MCU logo on it, but the first season of this show was great - so Iā€™m ready to get hurt again.

We got a couple of great posters and the series was announced to begin on October 6th. Loki in the month of October just makes sense for the God of Mischief - thank you, Disney.

More MCU

  • More movie delays, including Kraven and Beyond The Spider-Verse - which no longer has a release date at all. Consider me nervous.

  • Disney reportedly scanned all of the WandaVision background actorsā€™ faces and bodies to create digital replicas without them understanding what was going on. They werenā€™t paid, did not give permission and do not know what theyā€™re using them for. Disney has some explaining to do.

  • Cillian Murphy was asked about playing Doctor Doom in the MCU and he responded ā€œItā€™s always about the scriptā€¦you never know.ā€ This will never, ever happen - but Iā€™d be fired up.

  • Avengers: Endgame portal scene, but with each heroā€™s theme. Love this.

DC

James Gunn needs to clean it up. The new rumor suggests that Gal Gadot will continue playing Wonder Woman in his new rebooted DCU, which just doesnā€™t make any sense. Why move on from Henry Cavill and others if youā€™re going to keep some of the original cast? The age argument doesnā€™t track.

I enjoyed Gal in her role within the Snyderverse, but thatā€™s where it ends for me. If youā€™re going to reboot, just commit to the full reboot, none of this half-assed approach. I doubt this actually happens, but if it does, Iā€™ll be concerned.

Thank god for Matt Reeves and his The Batman universe.

More DC

  • I actually really love this new poster for Blue Beetle. Vibes are fun.

  • Speaking of Blue Beetle, Zack Snyder came out in support of the film. Iā€™m honestly shocked to see Zack publically support DC (in a tweet that now has over 15M views), but heā€™s a good guy, so this tracks.

  • Jason Momoa donated a ton of water to those on the WGA/SAG picket lines - which is just so on-brand.

  • Industry scooper MyTimeToShineH reported that Skyler Gisondo is the top choice to play Jimmy Olsen in Superman: Legacy.

šŸŽ„ The Rest

TMNT: Mutant Mayhem

  • TMNT: Mutant Mayhem is sitting at 94% on RT and reviews are overwhelmingly positive. Iā€™ll be seeing this one within the next few days.

  • Great marketing tactic from the TMNT crew, finding the ā€˜I like turtlesā€™ kid and using him for a promo video. Well done.

Box Office Talk

More

  • The studios are officially sitting down with the writers of WGA this upcoming Friday to put an end to the strike. Letā€™s hope for good news.

  • Stephen Amell, best known for his work on the CWā€™s Arrow, is getting absolutely SMOKED on the internet after publically making some anti-strike comments. Heā€™s tried to walk it back, but big yikes here.

  • Peaky Blinders congratulates Cillian and the cast of Oppenheimer. Just makes me happy.

  • Henry Cavill has officially completed his time as Geralt in The Witcher. Liam Hemsworth will replace him in S4. Colossal L.

  • NASA is launching its own streaming service, free of ads and completely free. Check out the trailer here - Iā€™m here for space nonsense.

  • Seth MacFarlane donated $1M to the Entertainment Community Fund to support those in need during the strikes. Good move.

  • Angus Cloud, best known for his work on Euphoria, has died at 25 years old. Fucking terrible.

    • If youā€™re struggling, please reach out to someone. Iā€™ve seen one too many mental health emergencies recently. If you donā€™t have anyone to talk to, send me a DM or an email - Iā€™m always open to talk some shit. Donā€™t suffer alone.

The Gaming Industry

Whatā€™s new in the world of gaming & esports

Upcoming

  • Weā€™re officially one month out from the launch of Starfield - Iā€™m absolutely WIRED for this one, you can find my whole review of the reveal here. One of my top 2 most anticipated games of 2023.

  • The next generation of consoles is coming soon, with Nintendoā€™s new edition coming during the second half of 2024.

  • Xbox will soon allow users to stream directly to Discord.

  • Assassins Creed Mirage is reportedly 20-30 hours long, far shorter than the endless slog of Valhalla.

  • The next Dead by Daylight crossover is with Alien. Check it out here.

  • All signs are pointing to the fact that the rumored Red Dead Redemption remaster is real and coming. If true, weā€™re living in the best timeline.

  • Apex Legends has a new season releasing next Tuesday and it includes a complete rework of Revenantā€™s abilities. His kit looks SICK.

More Gaming

  • A tournament organizer for a Street Fighter 6 event went live and accidentally left their ā€˜nude Chun-Liā€™ mod on. Canā€™t believe this is real.

  • Nadeshot went on an all-time rant about the backlash some creators are getting for accepting deals of upwards of $100M to crypto gamble.

  • A new PS5 update allows users to mute the beep sound that happens when the console turns on or off - which is a lifesaver to all of the gamers in a relationship out there.

  • Post Malone bought the Magic: The Gathering One Ring (TLOTR crossover) card from a collector that was appraised at $2M. Itā€™s a true 1/1. Insane.

Weekly Rant

Best Movies To Watch During Summer

All week I was up in arms that Haunted Mansion, a Halloween-themed movie, released in fucking July, and it transitioned into thinking about films that I associate with specific times of the year. Iā€™m a big ~vibes~ guy, so Iā€™m always looking to get into the true essence of the seasons. Weā€™ve hit August, so I figured Iā€™d drop some of my favorite summer seasonal content. Weā€™ll do this each season and Iā€™ll keep a running list. Letā€™s start building the Modern Mythos Summer Collection.

Growing up and living in a beach town and naturally gravitating towards beach-themed content - it doesnā€™t quite feel like summer to me until I watch Jaws. Stranger Things S3 was so transportive and truly made me nostalgic for summer in the 80s - something I never lived. You can make a case for a ton of early 2000s films, but American Pie and others like it are just summer classics. I could list a lot of nerd shit here, but I think the original Transformers is by far and away a phenomenal summer movie. The Avengers is another.

My list: Stranger Things S3. Jaws 1 & 2. Grown Ups. The Avengers. Once Upon A Time In Hollywood. American Pie. Dazed and Confused. Any Mission: Impossible. The Nice Guys. Transformers. Zack Snyders Justice League. Summer Vacation. Point Break (1991). Raiders of The Lost Ark. Fast Times at Ridgemont High.

I asked my wife the same question and we had some similarities but she pointed out a classic like The Sandlot with some summer love stories like 500 Days of Summer and The Notebook mixed in. Her taste also trends toward the horror genre, so Friday the 13th had to make an appearance since itā€™s set in the summer.

Her list: The Sandlot. Blue Crush. Grease. Friday the 13th. Wet Hot American Summer. The Notebook. 500 Days of Summer. Parent Trap. Dirty Dancing. Weā€™re The Millers. Surfs Up. Little Miss Sunshine.

The common denominator here is the presence of coming-of-age stories, arguably my favorite genre of film. Thereā€™s something so intoxicating about themes of growing up and showing the maturation process, watching these characters become who theyā€™re meant to be through their trials and tribulations. Itā€™s easy to relate to as characters often deal with issues and challenges most face. Nostalgia at its finest - personal transformation is beautiful.

What did we miss? Send me your summer favorites so itā€™s a true community collection. When you send some suggestions, Iā€™ll add them to the listā€¦find the collection below. šŸ’Æ

āš” What Iā€™ve Been Watching

  • Invincible - Atom Eve Special.

    • Man, I really missed this show. If you havenā€™t watched S1 yet, please do. If you have, please watch this special episode. It was beautiful and reminded me of my love for the series. Weā€™re back.

  • The Bear S1

    • No, I havenā€™t watched this show yet. Yes, I do fucking love it. My wife and I got through 6 or so episodes so far and I understand the hype.

  • Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves

    • This was fine. Got some laughs out of me but something just felt off. Not enough dungeons or dragons IMO. 3 stars.
