▪︎ Spyglass has dropped Melissa Barrera from Scream 7 due to social media posts protesting the Palestinian genocide, and her co-star Jenna Ortega has also left the film. This is shaking Hollywood at the moment and massive news…Ortega’s reps are saying her leaving isn’t related, but I’m not buying it. Read.

▪︎ An Elon Musk Biopic is being produced by A24 with Darren Aronofsky to direct. Do we need to see an Elon biopic yet? Probabaly not. Is it going to make a fuck load of money? Definitely. Read.

▪︎ DreamWorks founder Jeffrey Katzenberg predicts that AI will cut the cost and workforce of animated films by 90%. For better or worse, AI is entering the entertainment space…expect mass disruption. Read.

▪︎ Warner Bros. attempted to cancel upcoming film Coyote vs. Acme for a tax write-off, but are now shopping it to other studios due to backlash. This is wild - after trashing a fully complete Batgirl movie (for tax purposes), WB tried to do it again to save money…evil. Read.

MCU Rumors & Updates:

The big one…Pedro Pascal is in deep discussions to play Reed Richards (Mr Fantastic) in Marvel’s Fantastic Four. I love Pedro, but feel they could have gone another direction here. Read.
Fantastic Four is reportedly targeting Javier Bardem to play Galactus. This would be top-tier casting. Read.
Robert Kirkman let it slip that his friend Steven Yeun is playing Sentry in Marvel’s Thunderbolts…love this casting and a hilarious way to find out. Read.
Avengers: Kang Dynasty loses its director, Destin Daniel Cretton, as he’s focusing on Shang Chi 2 instead…this movie is in limbo right now. Read.
All episodes of What If S2 will release on December 22, with 9 new episodes in 9 consecutive days. Trailer here.
Taika Waititi will not be back to direct Thor 5. This is for the best, in my opinion as his creative style ran its course. Read.

Franchise Headlines

▪︎ Dave Filoni has been named the new Chief Creative Officer of Lucasfilms. He’ll now be brought in during project inception phase instead of an advisor on previously announced projects. He has the keys, let’s see what he does with them. Read.

▪︎ Nicholas Hoult is in deep discussions to play Lex Luthor in Superman: Legacy. After losing out on playing Batman to Pattinson and Superman to Corenswet, Hoult lands a key comic book movie role…he’s perfect for it. Read.

▪︎ Netflix Geeked Week announced some top tier projects. My favorite announcements and teasers were Arcane S2 (omg), Avatar: TLA (great trailer), Rebel Moon (my new religion) and The Witcher: Sirens of The Deep. Read.

▪︎ The Marvels hits new MCU box office low with a $47M opening weekend. Considering this film cost over $200M, this is a horrendous result. Other MCU films opening lower than $60M include The Incredible Hulk and Ant-Man.

▪︎ Katilyn Dever is in deep talks to play Abby in The Last of Us S2. Dever was fantastic in her recent alien invasion movie No One Will Save You and previously auditioned for the role of Ellie. Read.

Percy Jackson and The Olympians | Trailer… I didn’t read the books growing up but I know plenty are very excited for this one.
Madame Web | Trailer… This is up there with the worst trailers I’ve ever seen. Sony must be stopped.
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom | Trailer… just going to treat this one as a fun popcorn flick and keep it moving.
Pokemon Concierge | Trailer… A stop-motion Pokemon movie.

The Game Awards have announced their categories and nominees for 2023. To the uninitiated, this is essentially The Oscars for video games.

Game of The Year nominees include:

Alan Wake 2
Baldurs Gate 3
Marvel's Spider-Man 2
Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
Super Mario Bros. Wonder
Resident Evil 4

Last year we saw Elden Ring take it, my choice would be Spider-Man 2 but I'd put money on Baldurs Gate 3. My major disappointment this year is that Hogwarts Legacy didn't see one nomination, not even for music or sound design.

Gaming Headlines

▪︎ GameBattles has announced that they're are shutting down. The massive and iconic online tournament service for competitive esports is where most current pro's and streamers got their start…the support has been massive. Look.

▪︎ The Overwatch esports League is officially dead as Blizzard decides to leave it in the dust. City-based pro esports leagues just don’t work and it might have been Activisions downfall from high startup costs, franchise fees and non-traditional spectator sport barriers. Read.

▪︎ The Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake is likely never happening. Reports are saying it’s dead, but another report said very few are working on it with no end in sight…I doubt we’ll ever see this. Read.

▪︎ Tfue has returned to live streaming, just in time for some Fortnite OG. After announcing his retirement back in June, Tfue has signed a deal with Kick and is now back in full force…with a top tier announcement video. Watch.
